Join Our Crew
- We trade “chasing” (ground crewing) for rides. No experience is necessary. Join our crew and we'll teach you everything you’ll need to know.
- Our crew generally consists of 3 people.
- A chase is fun and easy, but chasers need to be reliable. Not all chases are guaranteed, it's possible it might be cancelled (usually about an hour before the pre-arranged meeting time) because of the weather.
- We trade 5 chases for a single person ride or said in another way, one ride for 5 chases. A chase takes an average of 2 and ½ hours from the time you meet the pilot and passengers at the arranged site until the time you get back to your car to drive home.
- You can choose to only sign up to chase on days that you want. So it is very easy and convenient for your schedule.
- Each chase will consist of:
Driving (van with trailer) to a launch site that we select that day. We usually have three "chasers," and one has to drive (and possibly back up) the van towing a 7 x 10 trailer.
Inflating the balloon. It takes about 20 minutes, and it’s not physically difficult. There’s a little heavy lifting but the equipment comes out of the trailer pretty much in the configuration that we need it in.
Following the balloon during flight. We go an average of 6-8 miles in an hour. Don't worry, the balloon is big and colorful, and easy to spot.
Packing up. We squeeze the air out of the balloon. Then we put the balloon into a large bag and carry all the equipment to the trailer.
Light champagne toast with the passengers and landowners and perhaps telling a few stories.
Our crew drives everyone back to their cars.
